Samsung‘s Galaxy Tab A8 is getting the Android 12 update. The affordable tablet launched in December last year is picking up the new Android version along with the Korean firm’s One UI 4.1 custom software. The update is already live across Europe and should soon make its way into other markets, including the US.

The Android 12-based One UI 4.1 update for the Galaxy Tab A8 comes with firmware version X205XXU1BVI6 in Europe. The tablet is picking up the September security patch with this release. But more importantly, Samsung is seeding tons of new features and changes to the device. For starters, this update brings subtle UI changes across the system. A new Color Palette feature lets you customize system UI elements with unique colors based on your wallpaper.

For added privacy, you can now seel all app permissions in one place, making it easier to manage permissions. You will also get display indicators when an app is using the camera or microphone. One UI 4.1 further lets you avoid sharing your precise location with apps that don’t need it. Instead, you can share the approximate location that will do the job. And if you copy sensitive information such as passwords and credit card numbers to the clipboard, you’ll get an alert whenever an app accesses that information.

This update further brings new homescreen and lockscreen widgets. You can control music, start a voice recording, or check out calendar events without unlocking the tablet. The camera app now shows the magnification level when taking zoom shots. And if you want to record videos, recording will begin as soon as you touch the shutter button. Previously, recording will start only after you release your finger from the shutter button.

Samsung has also improved its stock apps such as Samsung Internet, Samsung Keyboard, Gallery, Calendar, and more with this update. Enhanced dark mode, updated notification pane, easier brightness control, new accessibility features, enhanced device care, and new editing features are other highlights on Android 12-based One UI 4.1 for Galaxy devices.
