Kernel prepatch 6.0-rc7

The 6.0-rc7 kernel prepatch is out for testing.

So I was thinking rc7 might end up larger than usual due to travel hitting rc6, but it doesn't really seem to have happened.

Yeah, maybe it's marginally bigger than the historical average for this time of the release cycle, but it definitely isn't some outlier, and it looks fairly normal. Which is all good, and makes me think that the final release will happen right on schedule next weekend, unless something unexpected happens. Knock wood.

This confusing and outdated "prepatch" label really needs to be dropped. It's not 1996 anymore.

6.0-rc7 is not a prepatch (prepatch to what?) -- it's a Release Candidate (RC).

with the caveat that at most the two last rc are truly intended as release candidate.

Yeah and that drives me nuts. The RC naming is definitely wrong up till rc7. rc1/2 should probably be alphas and 3-6 betas.

Linus intentionally does not give the releases beta/alpha blessing. Rc does not mean release candidate in kernel context.
All rcs shall be tested as if they were release candidates.

Why stop at beta? I say we call the first rc "alpha", the second "beta", the third "gamma", the forth "delta" etc.

?
Pre as in before the next release, Patch as in it is a patch.
Pretty self-explanatory and more descriptive then "Release Candidate (RC)".
